Huskies Sweep ESU in Baseball

EAST STROUDSBURG--The Bloomsburg University baseball team continued its late season surge by sweeping East Stroudsburg on Friday by scores of 14-10 and 6-4. The Huskies have now won five straight and seven of their last nine games.
In the opener, Rob Watlock (Plains/Coughlin) went 3-5 and had four RBI to lead a 15-hit offensive attack for Bloomsburg. Watlock had a two-run double in the second inning and later added an RBI single in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh.
In all, four Bloomsburg University players, Matt Robinson (York/Red Lion), Watlock, Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Mgn. Bonner) and Syril Kress (Littlestown/Littlestown) each banged out three hits each in the opener with Robinson going 3-5 and adding three runs scored.
Robinson also played a major role in the game from the mound. Taking over in relief of Casey Markey (York/Dallastown) in the sixth, Robinson retired all six batters he faced to earn the save.
In game two, the Huskies rallied from a 3-1 deficit to pull out a 6-4 win. Ward went 2-4 in the game with two RBI, while Watlock also drove home two runs despite an 0-4 day batting.
Trailing 3-1 after two, the Huskies scored three in the third with Ward and Vinnie James (Bristol/Bristol) getting RBI hits and Watlock driving in a run with a ground out.
Bloomsburg made it 6-3 in the fifth with a pair of runs with Ward singling home one and Watlock bringing in a run with a ground out.
Robinson also earned his second save of the day by getting the game's final two outs with two on base. Dave Rute (Milton/Milton) earned the victory going 6 1/3 innings.
Bloomsburg, 15-30, 7-11 in the PSAC East, concludes the regular season on Saturday at home with East Stroudsburg in a twinbill.
